Letting Suspected Terrorists Go and What It Foreshadows for Future Courts

9 October 2008 - 9:44am

A recent disastrous ruling by a federal judge illustrates the danger that comes from an out-of-control judiciary.  Hopefully, this stark reminder of how the makeup of federal courts can have drastic (and dangerous) effects on the lives and safety of average Americans, will cause people to consider what kind of judicial appointments each presidential candidate is likely to make before submitting their ballot on November 4.

“Public School [Homosexual Indoctrination] Lawsuit Runs Out of Federal Appeals”

9 October 2008 - 9:38am

The Daily News Tribune reports.  Excerpt:

“We’re very disappointed that the Supreme Court has turned their backs on this parental rights issue,” said David Parker, the most vocal plaintiff in the lawsuit. “This clearly has national significance with profound consequences, and they’re ignoring it. We will look into [pursuing it in state court]. We will have further meetings with our attorneys and discuss that option.”

The Parkers and Wirthlins filed suit in 2006 after the Parkers’ son, Jacob, brought home a book as part of the diversity book bag from his Estabrook Elementary kindergarten class in 2005. The book, “Who’s in a Family,” showed various family types including a same-sex-headed household, as well as single parents and grandparents raising children. The Wirthlins’ son, Joey, who was then in first grade, was in class on a day that marriage was the topic. At the time, a book on a prince marrying another prince was read to the class, “King and King.”

Parker said the judges who dismissed the suit at the district and appellate levels agreed that the intent on using the books in class was to change children’s minds about homosexuality. He said that with the Supreme Court decision, books will be used all over the country to do just that.

“Books and lessons will come into [schools] to have children affirm it,” Parker said. “They will be coerced to affirm the correctness and the normalcy of homosexuality, homosexual conduct, and gay marriage.”

Election 2008 and the Courts

7 October 2008 - 4:38pm

Michael Doyle provides a crucial reminder of the importance of considering the kinds of Supreme Court and lesser court appointments a presidential candidate is likely to make.  Today the court system exerts an enormous amount of power, and the need to appoint well-qualified, constitutionalist judges to the federal bench is more important than ever.  Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain have drastically different visions for the future of the court, and we as citizens should consider them carefully before we step up to the ballot box.  Here is an excerpt from Michael’s piece:

The next president will tip the courts, one way or another.

Supreme Court openings are all but guaranteed, and that's just the start: 44 trial and appellate federal judicial vacancies already await filling. There will be more.

Curt Levy discusses the kinds of Supreme Court nominees we are likely to see from an Obama administration here.

USAID Withholds Taxpayer Dollars from Group that Assists Forced Abortion Programs

7 October 2008 - 2:27pm

Thanks to the pro-life rider in federal law know as the Kemp-Kasten provision, the United States foreign aid cannot be used to support organizations that promote forced abortion or forced sterilization policies.  Because of these provisions, taxpayer funding of Marie Stopes International (MSI) has been restricted.

This incident is an important reminder of the ways Congress and the president can have a powerful pro-life impact, even while the flawed Roe vs. Wade decision is still in effect.

Electing pro-life leaders is still important, so don’t let anyone tell you that pro-life issues don’t matter as long as Roe vs. Wade is the law of the land.

Abortion Nuances Fall Short, Obama’s Record Examined

7 October 2008 - 2:25pm

Doug Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee has a piece at NRO debunking the commonly used “we want to reduce abortion numbers” excuse that pro-abortion politicians often resort to, and he sets the record straight on Barack Obama’s record on abortion.

“6 Va. State Police Chaplains Resign Over Jesus Ban”

4 October 2008 - 6:14pm

Newsmax reports.  Excerpt:

Six of 17 Virginia State Police Chaplains have resigned over a request they not reference Jesus Christ at public events.

Instead, they've been instructed by the Superintendent to offer non-denominational prayers, a decision made following a recent ruling by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Planned Parenthood Pork Prevented

30 September 2008 - 7:36pm

The Senate on Friday rejected a bill (on a cloture vote) which would have carved out a special drug price kickback for the nation’s largest abortion provider at taxpayer expense.
